Beautiful crockery can double as functional kitchen décor. Here are some stylish ways to display your crockery:

  • On Open Shelving – Display your crockery on open shelving. Stack plates and bowls on top of one another, and arrange some securely upright to reveal the beautiful patterning and textures of your crockery set.
  • In a glass cabinet – Transform your beloved fine bone china tea set and dining set into a showpiece by elegantly displaying the pieces in a glass cabinet. You can add a contrasting background by painting the inside of the cabinet in a colour that brings out the details of your crockery.
  • On the wall – This method applies to the rarely used, beautifully decorated plates you want to admire as pieces of art in your kitchen. Hang plates as you would a painting by adding hooks to secure them to the wall. Plate racks can also be used to slot plates in.

How to organise crockery?

To save space, stack your small-medium sized crockery horizontally, or vertically in holders. Depending on how many you have of each, dedicate different shelves to bowls, plates, cups etc. For larger pieces, stack horizontally in order of size.

You can also stack bowls on top of plates, but avoid placing heavy bowls or plates on top of one another to prevent cracks.

A dinner service is sold in sets. Typically, these sets include every piece of dinnerware a group of four would need at the table. The pieces of crockery in dinner service sets vary depending on formality. The typical dinner service includes: dinner plates, side plates and soup/dessert bowls.
